Youth Task Force
The Homeless Youth Task Force is a joint committee between the Western New York Coalition for the Homeless and the Homeless Alliance of Western New York that represents over 50 agencies. The goal of the Youth Task Force is to end Youth Homeless in WNY by the year 2020 by providing the resources they need, especially a safe place to sleep. Youth Task Force Sub-Committees include:
Resource and Collaboration Committee
This committee will identify funding opportunities and create methods to maximize the effectiveness of resources currently available to youth experiencing homelessness, as well as keep a live list of all current resources for youth experiencing homelessness.
Coordinated Outreach
This committee, which meets bi-weekly, case conferences about all youth identified through coordinated entry. The team will discuss ways to make sure services are accessible to all youth experiencing homelessness and that youth are swiftly connected to housing and mainstream resources upon identification
System Advocacy
This committee will focus on decreasing the criminalization of homelessness and identifying opportunities for homeless youth involved in the criminal justice system to become empowered members of their community.
Community and Education
This committee will focus on identifying opportunities in the community for youth to engage in recreational, educational, and employment-related opportunities.
Youth Action Board
This committee is made up of several youth with lived experience of being unstably housed or homeless. The team will review suggestions made by the Youth Task Force and come up with their own ideas and strategies, to be incorporated into decisions made by the Youth Task Force.
